Field bosses

Why to fight each boss in Classic World: the one-time quests they unlock, what they hit for, the element matchups, and why EXP is the wrong reason to go.

Every number and name on this page is read live from the game data.

  • The bosses
  • Quests that need a boss
  • EXP: the boss against its own map
  • What each boss can do to you
  • Skills and attacks, boss by boss
  • Element matchups
  • In the files, not in the world
  • Common mistakes
  • Drops
  • What next
  • Not confirmed yet

Bosses in Classic World are for one-time quests and drops, not EXP. Decide why you are going before you walk.

  • Here for EXP? Do not go. Wherever a field boss shares its map with other mobs, one clear pays more than the boss, and you should plan on at least the base timer between kills.
  • Need a quest? Check the table first. Stumpy and Shade need one kill with the quest active. Mushmom's two quests need an item rather than a kill, so they may take many kills. Mano's last step lists no reward.
  • Want a drop? Accept that the rate is unknown. No boss drop has been counted yet. Pick a boss whose map pays while you wait.

There are six field bosses, plus , which is the last fight of the Kerning party quest.

Note

Field bosses attack on sight and spawn on one map only. The base timer is one hour, or three for Jr. Balrog. Nexon made it more random on 21 Oct and has not said by how much. One report so far from launch week describes waits of 1 to 3 hours, though an unseen kill can make a wait look longer than the timer. Plan on at least the base timer and do not set an exact alarm. If the boss is missing, try another channel. Who gets the drops and the EXP when several people hit a boss is not documented. Log the kill on the boss timers page: nobody has measured the real respawn yet.

Field bosses need no key. King Slime does: you reach it through a party quest run, and every member must be Lv. 21 or higher. A party of four is reference data, not confirmed in Classic World.

Quests that need a boss

BossQuestLv.What it paysThe catch
Mano20No reward listedThe four earlier steps pay 7,477 EXP without Mano
King Slime211,870 EXP, 687 mesos, 1 fame, a random earring scrollTake it before your first run
Stumpy343,937 EXP, 1,082 mesos, 5 fame, Last of 8 steps, and step 7 needs 100 . The quest log ties them to , but our tables list no drop row
Mushmom449,940 EXP, 1,389 mesos, 15 Needs a , which is a drop, not a kill, and stores list it. Also 3 , which no mob we can show drops, so buy them from players
Mushmom4711,400 EXP, 1,477 mesos, 10 Citizenship chain. The quest log says the came from killing Mushmom. No drop row, so the rate is unknown
Shade4711,400 EXP, 1,477 mesos, 10 Mid-chain, behind citizenship

No quest targets Zombie Mushmom or Jr. Balrog.

Mushmom's 784 is face value. has 500 W.DEF, so physical classes should not plan on it. On one channel, Jr. Balrog's three-hour base timer makes its 2,188 worth about 729 an hour, if it keeps to the timer.

King Slime's 2,400 is the largest EXP value on any live mob, ahead of Jr. Balrog. How it reaches a party is untested, so do not read it as what you will get.

The hit. Use this column, not the W.ATK on the card. Bosses attack at a ratio of their stat: Mushmom's 532 lands as 665, and Jr. Balrog's 1,069 M.ATK as 1,871. By raw W.ATK a field boss hits about two to three times as hard as a normal mob of its level (King Slime only about 1.6 times), and Jr. Balrog nearly five times once its ratio counts. No boss hit has been measured, so how far a real hit strays from this column is unknown. HP floors in these guides are a margin we chose, about one and a half listed hits, not a predicted hit. The fight checker shows less because it is a rough estimate of one hit from W.ATK, with no attack ratio and no margin.

Accuracy, as an estimate. Estimated hit rate: your accuracy, cut by the level gap to any mob above you, rolls against the mob's avoid. This is a community estimate that nobody has tested in Classic World. The table shows the need at the boss's own level. Each level under the boss adds about 4%, and levels above it add nothing. So on accuracy alone there is no reason to want five levels on a boss. Field bosses have about the same avoid as normal mobs of their level, and King Slime has about half. and add only 5 and 7. Check your own numbers in the accuracy tool.

Can spells miss? This is not settled. Some reads of the client say spells use the same hit check as physical attacks, others say every spell lands. Nexon has not said, and we found no test either way and no player report of a spell missing. Treat missing as possible against mobs above your level. Either way, DEX does nothing for a mage.

Stagger. The number is the single hit needed to flinch the boss. Plan on it walking through you. Nexon fixed bosses being knocked back by some skills on 15 Oct, so old tricks using that are gone.

Regen. Each boss recovers HP on a tick. The tick length is unknown, so we cannot say how much this slows a kill. Report what you see.

Potions. restores 35% HP and MP, 100% of both, 50% MP. All three share one 30-second cooldown, so you get one per 30 seconds whichever you drink. Flat potions still carry a long fight. Elixir is sold at 3,000 by and . Power and Mana Elixir have no NPC seller in our data. See potions.

Skills and attacks, boss by boss

Each card lists the boss's attacks and skills from the game files, not tested in Classic World: how often a skill can fire, how long it lasts, the HP at which it starts, and what a summon calls. Where a skill's name is our best reading and not certain, the card says so.

The short version: calls Snails below 90% HP and casts Slow. calls Slimes below 50% HP and leaves 11 more when it dies. heals below 80% HP. casts Seal, Darkness and Curse, and calls Wraiths below 50% HP. , and have attacks only, no skills.

The marks are client facts. The size is not: client text says only "increased" and "reduced". Weak is about ×1.25 and resist about ×0.75 by estimate. Older guides say ×1.5 and ×0.5. Neither is tested in Classic World.

  • Fire/Poison: Stumpy and Mushmom are yours. is neutral on every boss except Shade, which resists it, and Jr. Balrog, where it does no real damage. is neutral on Jr. Balrog, so you are not shut out there.
  • Ice/Lightning: no live boss is weak to ice or lightning. Your job here is neutral damage. Default to on Stumpy. It resists lightning, so cannot stun it, and whether its damage drops too is unconfirmed.
  • Cleric: on Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog. damages only the two undead, so it does nothing to Mushmom. King Slime is marked holy-resistant, but whether Holy Arrow uses that mark is unconfirmed, so do not count on it there. How much extra holy does is unknown.
  • Physical: the marks do not touch a plain weapon attack. Zombie Mushmom has the lowest W.DEF of the live bosses (10), and Shade the highest (30).

In the files, not in the world

has one spawn on a map marked Forgotten Hollow, which you cannot reach yet: Lv. 60, 86,400 HP, 844 EXP, W.ATK 752, undead, weak to fire and holy, resists poison. Expect it with Forgotten Hollow, which Nexon has dated only as November. and have full stats but no spawn, and we have no basis to say when they arrive. Their pages carry a badge that says so, and Coming soon lists them with everything else not out yet.

What the game files give them, not tested in Classic World. Faust's skill names include ones we cannot confirm.

Common mistakes

  • Setting an exact 60-minute alarm.
  • Expecting Thunder Bolt to stun Stumpy, or casting Heal on Mushmom or Poison Breath on Jr. Balrog.
  • Planning a long fight around chain-drinking Elixirs.
  • Standing still in an empty room. Shade and Jr. Balrog have nothing else on their maps, so empty means change channel.
  • Walking past a hidden portal. Mushmom's route is all hidden portals, and Stumpy, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog each have at least one. Use the pathfinder, or open the map's page: numbered portals on its minimap show where each one leads.
  • Trusting a boss table without checking it. Mushmom pays 340 EXP, Jr. Balrog pays 2,188, and Zombie Mushmom is Lv. 55.

Drops

Every boss drop row we hold is reference data, unconfirmed, with no kill count behind it. Treat Lv. 60-70 gear lists with care: no Lv. 51+ equipment drop has been confirmed. If you kill a boss, send what you saw and how many kills it took through the drop report. A few honest counts would beat every table online.

What next

By level: at 34, the Jane chain at 44, and at 47. The full list of quests by level is in key quests.

Not confirmed yet

  • Who gets drops and EXP on a shared kill.
  • The real respawn range, and whether each channel runs its own timer. Hopping channels is common practice, not proof.
  • Whether the 30 Oct spawn change touched bosses.
  • How far a real boss hit strays from the listed figure.
  • Any boss drop rate or kill time.
  • Whether Holy Arrow and Thunder Bolt follow the holy and lightning marks.

  • Warrior build variants: dexless and moreDoes dexless work in Classic World? Unproven, and nobody has posted results. What it gains at 30, what it loses from 40, and the armor and scroll limits most guides skip.
  • Spearman guideEstimated reach, Iron Will and the only warrior self-heal. Why polearm is the default but spear is no mistake, what v1.1.0 changed for Rush and absorb, and honest limits.
  • Page guideThe hardest single-target Final Attack, the crafted blunt line and the option of a shield. 2H blunt or 1H and shield, and when Threaten is worth its 30 SP.
  • Fighter guideRage, the only multi-target Final Attack and fast 2H weapons. SP order, axe or sword, a weapon plan that works without level 30 shops, and what is known to 70.
  • Warrior build: 1st job, your branch and gear you can getHow to spend 61 SP before level 30, how to choose between Fighter, Page and Spearman, and what gear you can actually obtain at each level, quests included.
  • Mage build variants: how much LUK?The one stat decision every mage faces. Three LUK plans compared on gear that really exists, what lukless actually costs, and why you can always add LUK but not remove it.
  • Cleric guideIs Cleric worth it? What Heal, Bless and Invincible really do in Classic World, party and solo SP orders, and where a mage with a single-target attack should train.
  • Ice/Lightning Wizard guideThe cheapest damage among mages: Cold Beam for single targets, Thunder Bolt once four mobs are in reach. SP order, when each spell pays, and what to do about the lean 40s and 50s.
