Getting started
Install, what Classic World is, the order to clear Maple Island, and what to do from Lith Harbor to level 12.
Every number and name on this page is read live from the game data.
The short version: do every Maple Island quest you can, leave at level 7 or 8 with at least 300 mesos, the fare in the one report we have, clear the Lith Harbor quests, and take your 1st job at level 10. Decide your class before you spend any AP. The rest of this page is the order that wastes least, and why.
What Classic World is
MapleStory Classic World is Nexon's separate classic-era game. It has Maple Island, Victoria Island, one world (Windia), four classes with their 2nd-job branches, and a level cap of 100. You get 3 characters per account.
There is no 3rd job yet, and Orbis, El Nath and Ludibrium are not in the game. Nexon says 3rd job and new regions may arrive in stages, with no dates. If a guide sends you to Orbis or talks about modern MapleStory systems, it was not written for this game.
Install
There are two routes. Both work on Windows and macOS.
| Route | Steps | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Nexon Launcher | Find MapleStory in your library, switch on the Classic World toggle, download the standalone client | Players report a far smaller download. One report so far says about 2.5 GB |
| Steam | Install MapleStory. Classic World is bundled with it and you need both. Nexon describes a Classic World option but does not say where it sits | Players report 50 to 70 GB, because it includes modern MapleStory |
On Steam, link your Nexon account first. Nexon recommends doing it on the web, in your account settings, so you do not have to wait for the download. You can also sign in when the game first launches through Steam.
If disk space matters, use the launcher.
Pick your class before you spend AP
You choose your class at level 10 by talking to an instructor, but your stats start earlier, and each class's first weapon has a stat need.
| Class | Town | Stat its first weapons need |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | 0 to 25 STR | |
| Magician | 20 INT | |
| Bowman | 25 DEX | |
| Thief | 20 to 25 LUK |
By our estimate every stat starts at 4 and you place 9 points at creation. We plan on that. Put as many as you can into your class's main stat. AP is costly to undo: an costs 7,000 NX. The job advancement guide lists the exact weapon needs.
Maple Island: the order that wastes least
You start around . Everything on the island is level 8 or lower. Follow the quests in this order, because several of them send you to the next stop.
| Stop | People | Quests |
|---|---|---|
| 1. , and | , , , , | , , , , |
| 2. | , | : 3 from |
| 3. | , which ends with Mai | |
| 4. | , | , |
| 5. | , , | , , and the rest of the quiz |
| 6. Back to | , | Finish , then |
| 7. | , | , then the boat |
This is quest order, not directions. Use the route tool if you get lost.
Where to hunt for those quests:
| You need | Go to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Snails | 40 spawn points, all | |
| 21 spawn points. Biggs wants 10 shells | ||
| Mai's first targets | Blue Snails, 17 and 24 on one map | |
| or | 12 each, the most on the island |
Hunt Orange Mushrooms once. wants kills, and Biggs wants one . By our estimate about half of kills drop one.
What the island pays
All the island quests together pay 1,075 EXP and 300 mesos. On the reference EXP table, not confirmed in Classic World, 705 EXP reaches level 7 and 1,265 reaches 8. So quests alone end about two thirds of the way through level 7, or about halfway without , and some hunting takes you to 8.
- Mesos: the only two meso rewards are (150) and (150). Do both before you walk to the boat. We do not know where Pio's and come from. If you cannot finish his quest, pick up mesos as you hunt and count them before you walk to Southperry.
- pays one of seven hats at random.
- pays or at random. Both have 23 W.ATK. The Razor works from level 5, the Fruit Knife from 8.
- pays , a chair that adds 30 HP every 10 seconds. It wants 2 and 2 .
- Rain's quiz has seven parts and pays 490 EXP and 10 Oranges in total.
Why you keep shells
uses one shell per cast. Level 1 uses a for 15 fixed damage, level 2 a Blue Snail Shell for 25, and level 3 a for 40, at 3, 4 and 5 MP. Set aside 10 Blue Snail Shells for Biggs first, then keep the rest for this skill. Your Beginner SP can only go into Three Snails, and .
There is no Storage Keeper on the island, so what you carry is what you have.
Leaving
Talk to in Southperry. One report so far puts the fare at 300 mesos with a level 7 minimum, one way. If that holds and you finish Pio's quest, the two meso quests cover it exactly. Otherwise you need 150 mesos from hunting. Leave at level 7 or 8 with your quests done. You likely will not get another chance at them.
Lith Harbor: level 8 to 10
You land in . Five level 8 quests wait there, and their targets are on the doorstep.
| Quest | Wants | Pays |
|---|---|---|
| , | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 8 Red, 8 Blue | |
| , | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 3 | |
| Slimes, 1 | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, 15 | |
| Pigs, 1 | 124 EXP, 277 mesos, , 10 | |
| Reach level 10 | 188 EXP, 245 mesos, 8 Red, 8 Blue |
That is 684 EXP, 1,353 mesos and a real potion stock. Hunt on and . Teo's Slime Bubble is the slow one: by our estimate about 1 Slime in 20 drops it, so it may take a while.
Keep Phil for last. His quest completes at level 10. One report so far says it also sends you to your job town, which would save a long walk. On foot from Lith Harbor the route tool counts 9 maps to Henesys, 11 to Kerning City, 16 to Ellinia and 17 to Perion.
Quest money will not buy your weapon
The island and Lith Harbor pay at most 1,653 mesos, or 1,353 if the boat costs 300. First class weapons cost 3,000 or 5,000 in shops. So after you advance, check your bag before you shop: the game files hold Beginner's versions of some weapons, but nobody has confirmed how you get them. Sell only junk gear you pick up, keep quest items and anything a shop does not sell, and do not spend early.
Skip the at 1,000 mesos if you did Pio's quest. It gives the same +30 HP as the chair you already have.
Level 10 and after
| Level | What opens |
|---|---|
| 8 | Lith Harbor quests |
| 10 | 1st job, Crafting, whispers |
| 12 | Citizenship, Cash Shop gifting |
| 15 | Megaphones. Trade features open 24 hours after a character on your account reaches Lv. 15 (as of Nexon's 22 Oct notes) |
| 21 | Kerning PQ, on Channels 3 to 12 (as of the launch notes) |
| 30 | 2nd job |
| 100 | Level cap |
Go straight from 10 to the training route. At 12, talk to in Henesys Town Hall or in Kerning City Civic Center to become a citizen, then check the in Henesys or the in Kerning City.
The boards list resident greetings at 334 EXP and 409 mesos each, about a tenth of level 12 on the reference EXP table, not confirmed in Classic World. Each town also has two leader greetings, and in Henesys and and in Kerning City, at 5,850 EXP and 1,023 mesos. Level 12 needs 3,216 EXP on that table, so by that table one of those would be over a whole level. The quest data allows them at 12, but reference data gates them at level 32, not confirmed in Classic World. See the citizenship guide, check the board and do not plan on them.
If you buy NX, know that your first purchase brings a 96-hour Cash item trade restriction, and megaphones are blocked during it, as of Nexon's 4 Nov notes. Bans also carry across MapleStory and Classic World on one account.
Potions and controls
- Potions: in Lith Harbor, in Henesys, in Ellinia, in Kerning City and in Perion sell at 50, at 150, at 220 and at 350. Sleepywood's sauna sells Orange and White but no Red or Blue. Nexon raised potion drops on monsters Lv. 10 to 30 at launch, with no numbers, so pick up what falls.
- Keys: set a potion hotkey early. Nexon's 21 Oct Grand Launch notes let you choose Classic Style or Modern Style as your default key bindings, and Modern Style supports WASD movement. One report so far says you can open key settings and drag skills and items around, and that mouse buttons cannot be bound.
- Controllers: connect by USB or Bluetooth, then enable controller support in the in-game options. Nexon officially supports DualSense, DualShock and Xbox controllers.
Common mistakes
- Spending AP before you pick a class.
- Splitting AP evenly, or never spending it at all.
- Boarding the boat with quests undone. One report so far says you cannot come back.
- Following modern MapleStory advice, or any route that mentions Orbis.
- Vendoring shells on the island. Biggs and Three Snails both want them.
- Planning to hand items to a friend early. Trade features stay shut until 24 hours after a character on your account reaches Lv. 15.
