Stumpy
Perion's tree boss: 19,220 HP, weak to fire, resists lightning, and the last step of The Old Tree, a chain worth doing at 34.
Every number and name on this page is read live from the game data.
Stumpy is the end of a quest chain, and the chain is the reason to go. The Old Tree starts with on at Lv. 34. It pays 25,586 EXP, 7,031 mesos and 5 fame, and 21,649 of that EXP comes before you ever see the boss. Stumpy alone pays 276.
It is also the first boss built for Fire/Poison mages: it is weak to fire and resists lightning. If you have read the opposite anywhere, it is wrong.
Base timer one hour, more random since 21 Oct, so plan on at least that and do not set an exact alarm. If the boss is missing, try another channel, and log the kill on the boss timers page. Rules are in the boss overview.
The Old Tree
| Steps | Quest | What you do | Pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-5 | and its four follow-ups | Talk your way from Winston to , , , , then in Ellinia | 2,755 EXP, 757 mesos each |
| 6 | Back to Winston | 3,937 EXP, 1,082 mesos, 20 | |
| 7 | 100 | 3,937 EXP, 1,082 mesos, 20 | |
| 8 | Kill Stumpy | 3,937 EXP, 1,082 mesos, 5 fame, |
The first six steps pay 17,712 EXP for walking and talking. Do them even if you never plan to fight the boss. The only long leg is the trip to Ellinia and back.
Finding the branches. The quest log says the research is on the s' Very Dry Branch, so Stumps are where to start. No drop row lists it, so the rate is unknown. There are 16 Stumps on Winston's own map, so test there before you go anywhere else. If you finish this step, tell us how many kills it took.
The scroll. is 10% for Crit. Rate +4, and half of its failures destroy the item. Never put it on gloves you care about.
Getting there
Seven portals, and walking east overshoots. , , then through . On mountains I to IV the visible way on is at the left of the map, near the top. On V you arrive low down. Walk to the far left end for a hidden portal into . The visible exit on V leads on to VI, which is the wrong way.
What it does
- Two attacks, 644 before defence. Both are 135% of 477 W.ATK. One is flagged as a jump. The card below shows each one's reach from the game files. Nobody has tested it, so do not assume distance is safe. Treat 1,000 HP as a floor, which is our margin, not a measurement.
- It heals. Below 80% HP it can heal itself and nearby monsters at most every 30 seconds, about 1,000 HP a time by our reading of the game files, plus 192 HP regen per tick. Not tested in Classic World, so whether a solo character can out-damage it is the thing to find out.
- Two buffs. It also has two skills read as raising its own and nearby monsters' defence for 30 seconds. Those names are unconfirmed.
- It is slow. Speed -60 is the lowest of any boss here, so walking off to drink may work. Not tested.
Attacks
- Attack 1
Physical jump attack. Hits an area 543 x 172 px around it.
- Attack 2
Physical attack, fired as a projectile. Reaches about 200 px.
Skills
- Area weapon defense upName unconfirmed
Raises the weapon defense of itself and monsters near it for 30 s every 10 s (value 25 in the game files).
- Area magic defense upName unconfirmed
Raises the magic defense of itself and monsters near it for 30 s every 10 s (value 25 in the game files).
- Heals nearby monsters
Below 80% HP, heals nearby monsters by 1,000 HP every 30 s.
Traits
- Aggressive
Attacks you on sight, before you hit it.
- Regen
Regains 192 HP and 15 MP at each regen tick. How often it ticks is not in the game files.
From the game files, not tested in Classic World. Skill names are our own. Where a name is marked unconfirmed, we could not prove what the skill does.
What to use
| You are | Use | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Fire/Poison | Weak to fire, and M.DEF is only 10. With Mushmom, one of your two best bosses | |
| Ice/Lightning | Neutral, so a fair fight. Stumpy resists lightning, so cannot stun it. Whether its damage drops too is unconfirmed, so default to Cold Beam | |
| Cleric | Neutral. Not undead, so does nothing to it |
Physical classes: you need about 79 accuracy by our estimate, from Lv. 35 up, and a higher level adds nothing. Check your hit rate and damage in the fight checker, and see the boss overview for how the estimate works.
While you wait
Parched Land also holds 5 , 2 , plus one each of and . A clear pays 384 EXP against Stumpy's 276, and the stumps are fire-weak too, so Fire/Poison mages have something to burn.
Drops
Reference data, unconfirmed. These are rows in a table, not things anyone has counted, and they do not form a thief set.
