Elements and weaknesses
What weak, resist and immune do, how much they are likely worth, which mobs and bosses carry them, and how each mage should use them.
Every number and name on this page is read live from the game data.
If you are a Warrior, Bowman or Thief, you can skip this page. No 1st or 2nd job physical skill carries an element.
If you are a Magician, a mark tells you which of two maps to prefer. How much it is worth is untested: about ×1.25 by estimate, ×1.5 in older guides. On the estimate it is a nudge, not a reason to cross the island, so let accuracy, M.DEF and spawns decide first. The bigger effect is often the one people miss: resist also blocks your spell's side effect.
What the marks do
The marks on mob pages come from the game files. The size of the effect does not. Skill text says only "increased" and "reduced", and Nexon gives no number.
| Mark | Damage from that element | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Weak | Increased. About ×1.25 by estimate. Older guides say ×1.5 | is fire weak |
| Resist | Reduced. About ×0.75 by estimate. Older guides say ×0.5 | resists fire, ice, lightning and holy |
| Immune | No real damage. Nexon's 21 Oct fix implies 1 per hit for Poison Breath | is poison immune |
| No mark | Normal | Most mobs |
None of these sizes has been tested in Classic World.
Resist costs more than damage. A fire-resistant mob cannot be burned, a poison-resistant one cannot be poisoned, an ice-resistant one cannot be slowed, and a lightning-resistant one cannot be stunned.
Which skills care
| Skill | Element | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Fire | Text states the bonus and the penalty | |
| Poison | Same | |
| Ice | Same | |
| Lightning | Its text has no increased-damage line, so its weak bonus is assumed | |
| Holy | "Very effective against the undead or devil-based". Whether a mark bonus adds to that is not confirmed | |
| None named | Undead take damage. Whether marks change that is not confirmed | |
| , | None | Always your answer when a mob resists your main spell |

Some mobs resist two of a mage's elements. and resist fire and ice. resists fire and poison.
Undead is a separate flag. The undead are , , , , , , , , , and . All are holy weak. Only Jr. Wraith is also fire weak, so undead does not mean fire weak.
Marks are not the whole story
Marks do not save you from defense. and the other Fairies have 500 M.DEF, and has 500 W.DEF and 100 M.DEF. Check M.DEF on the mob page as well as the mark.
By class
- Fire/Poison. Use Fire Arrow on Jr. Wraith, Ligator, Croco, Cold Eye, stumps, Stumpy and Mushmom. Poison Breath is neutral on most mobs, resisted on Curse Eyes, Boogies, Golems and Shade, and useless on Jr. Balrog and Green Mushrooms. Use Fire Arrow or Energy Bolt there. See Fire/Poison.
- Ice/Lightning. Use Cold Beam on Fire Boar, Copper Drake, Red Drake and the Taurus mobs. Thunder Bolt is your pick on Slime, Octopus, Bubbling, Lorang and Clang, though whether it uses the weak mark is unconfirmed. Stumpy resists lightning, so use Cold Beam or an elementless spell. See Ice/Lightning.
- Cleric. Use Holy Arrow on everything undead, plus Malady and Dark Stone Golem. Malady and Dark Stone Golem are not undead, so Heal does not hurt them. Fairies resist holy. See Cleric.
- Everyone else. Ignore this page. Physical damage does not care.
Bosses
| Boss | Marks | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| None | Use your best spell | |
| Resists fire, ice, lightning, holy. Poison has no mark | Every mage has an answer. Fire/Poison uses Poison Breath, others use Energy Bolt or Magic Claw. A Cleric's Holy Arrow is resisted | |
| Fire weak, lightning resist | Fire Arrow. Ice/Lightning uses Cold Beam or an elementless spell | |
| Fire weak. Not undead | Fire Arrow | |
| Holy weak, poison resist, undead | Holy Arrow. Avoid Poison Breath | |
| Holy weak, undead | Holy Arrow | |
| Holy weak, poison immune | The highest live boss. Do not cast Poison Breath. It takes no real damage from it |
The boss overview has the fights. is in the game files but not yet reachable. It is undead, weak to fire and holy, and resists poison, and it is expected to arrive with Forgotten Hollow.
Check it yourself
The mob pages carry the live marks. The fight simulator applies these sizes as estimates when you pick a spell element. It does not pick a skill for you.
Nobody has measured the real size. A simple test would settle it: the same skill on two mobs of like level and M.DEF that differ only by the mark, averaged over many casts. against works for fire, since both have 0 M.DEF. against works for lightning, since both have 30. Post your result in our Discord.
