Note

This page covers only what Nexon's notices state, as of 7 November 2026. For anything marked unknown, ask Player Support, not a stranger with a download link.

Launcher or Steam

Both reach the same game. The difference is what you install.

Nexon LauncherSteam
What you getA standalone Classic World clientMapleStory and Classic World bundled, so you need both installed
How to pick Classic WorldFind MapleStory in your library and select the Classic World toggleNexon describes a Classic World option but does not say where it sits

macOSYesYes, through the MapleStory listing

If you only want Classic World, use the launcher. Nexon calls its client standalone, while Steam needs the full MapleStory install too.

If you bought a Zakum Package on Steam, Nexon says you can play through either route. The Zakum Package is the most complete Founder's Package tier, sold until 14 October Pacific time (15 October UTC), and the only tier Nexon offered on Steam.

Nexon Launcher steps

  1. Download the Nexon Launcher from the official Nexon website.
  2. Log in with your Nexon account.
  3. Find MapleStory in your library.
  4. Select the MapleStory Classic World toggle and download the standalone client.

Steam steps

  1. Open your Steam library and find MapleStory.
  2. Click Install and choose a drive.
  3. Let the base download finish and apply any pending updates.
  4. Link your Nexon account, then choose the Classic World option. Nexon does not say where it sits in Steam.

Linking. Nexon recommends the web route: log in on the Nexon website, go to Account Settings and link your Steam profile. You do not have to wait for the download. The other route is to launch through Steam and sign in when prompted.

First launch

Keys. Choose Classic Style or Modern Style as your default bindings. Modern Style supports WASD.

Controller. Nexon officially supports DualSense, DualShock and Xbox controllers, over USB or Bluetooth. Other controllers may not work properly. Turn on Enable Controller Support in Game Options, because it is off by default.

Language. English is the official language. Spanish and Korean are beta services using automated translation, and the in-game UI stays in English. Change language at the login screen or in Game Options, then relaunch.

Chat. Chat accepts characters supported by English, Spanish and Korean. Megaphones take English text only.

World. Up to 3 characters per account. Every character starts as a Beginner on Maple Island. Deleting a character has a waiting period.

After a maintenance

Nexon closes its maintenance notices the same way: restart your Nexon Launcher or Steam so you get the latest client update. If the game will not start after a patch, do that first.

What your account shares

MapleStory and Classic World run as one service on one account.

ThingRule
NXShared. It is the only thing shared
Maple PointsNot usable in Classic World
MVP statusNone in Classic World
In-game namesNot shared
Running both gamesOnly one game open at a time
BansApply to both worlds, wherever the violation happened
Challenger WorldNo transfer

Be careful with a shared or borrowed account. A ban earned in either game hits both.

Level and trade gates

Plan around that last row. If you buy NX to sell Cash items or to shout in a megaphone, the clock starts at your first purchase.

Leaf Points are a separate Cash currency in Classic World.

Region rules

Nexon's Cash Shop notices state two rules for Mystery items. Players in Belgium, Slovakia and Brazil cannot buy them. Mystery Fashion Crate items obtained in the Netherlands cannot be traded outside the account, though they can be moved within it and exchanged for Aurora Stamps.

Founder's Package

If you bought one, claim it from your in-game mailbox by 30 November 2026, 23:59 UTC. You must leave Maple Island before you can open the items, and you have 30 days to open after claiming. See what ends when.

Safe downloads

Only download the game from Nexon or Steam. Nexon has stated it will act against unauthorized servers and asks players to report them through Player Support.

Not confirmed yet

  • Whether controller play has any effect on the lie detector. See lie detector and bots.
  • Warrior build variants: dexless and moreDoes dexless work in Classic World? Unproven, and nobody has posted results. What it gains at 30, what it loses from 40, and the armor and scroll limits most guides skip.
  • Spearman guideEstimated reach, Iron Will and the only warrior self-heal. Why polearm is the default but spear is no mistake, what v1.1.0 changed for Rush and absorb, and honest limits.
  • Page guideThe hardest single-target Final Attack, the crafted blunt line and the option of a shield. 2H blunt or 1H and shield, and when Threaten is worth its 30 SP.
  • Fighter guideRage, the only multi-target Final Attack and fast 2H weapons. SP order, axe or sword, a weapon plan that works without level 30 shops, and what is known to 70.
  • Warrior build: 1st job, your branch and gear you can getHow to spend 61 SP before level 30, how to choose between Fighter, Page and Spearman, and what gear you can actually obtain at each level, quests included.
  • Mage build variants: how much LUK?The one stat decision every mage faces. Three LUK plans compared on gear that really exists, what lukless actually costs, and why you can always add LUK but not remove it.
  • Cleric guideIs Cleric worth it? What Heal, Bless and Invincible really do in Classic World, party and solo SP orders, and where a mage with a single-target attack should train.
  • Ice/Lightning Wizard guideThe cheapest damage among mages: Cold Beam for single targets, Thunder Bolt once four mobs are in reach. SP order, when each spell pays, and what to do about the lean 40s and 50s.
