Free Market guide
When you can trade, how stores and permits really work, how to price from sold prices, and how to avoid being scammed.
Every number and name on this page is read live from the game data.
The Free Market is where players trade. There is no Auction House or Meso Market in Classic World, so every sale is player to player. The first question is whether you can trade yet. The second is whether a store is worth it, or whether one Megaphone sells the item faster.
Can you trade yet?
Nexon's rule, restated 22 Oct: all trading features open 24 hours after a character on your account reaches level 15. The gate is per account, so a new character on an old account does not wait.
- Before the lock lifts you can neither sell to players nor drop items. A full Etc tab can cost you a good drop, so clear it at an NPC with items you know are junk.
- Kerning City PQ coupons and passes can be dropped below the requirement.
- Your first NX purchase starts a 96-hour Cash item trade restriction. Since 4 Nov, Megaphone, Super Megaphone, Item Megaphone and Double Item Megaphone are blocked during it too, for every character on that account in that world.
In the Netherlands or Belgium? Nexon's text says Mystery Fashion Crate items obtained in the Netherlands cannot leave the account, and Belgium, Slovakia and Brazil cannot buy Mystery items. Players there also reported all trading blocked between 7 and 24 Oct. We do not know whether that was wider than crates, or whether it still applies. Test a small trade before you plan on selling.
Getting in
Enter through the portal in or in Perion. There are 20 rooms. Leaving reportedly returns you to the town you came from.
From Sleepywood or Kerning City that is a trip, so combine it with a shop run. A runs from Henesys, and regular cabs also run from Ellinia, Kerning City, Perion and Sleepywood. Lith Harbor has and a but no regular cab. Citizens get a cab discount. Fares are not in our data.
at is a storage keeper, so you can fetch stock without leaving. stands there too, with a short level 13 chain that pays 306 mesos a step.
Do you need a store?
A store only sells while your character stays at it, so you cannot log off and let it run. It suits time you would spend at the keyboard anyway, not a quick sale. For one valuable item, a Megaphone or a buyer in your channel is often faster.
| Permit | Price | Lasts | Items |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,500 NX | 90 days | 12 | |
| 3,000 NX | 90 days | 18 | |
| 3,000 NX, until the 18 Nov maintenance | 90 days | 18 | |
| Monthly Essentials pack only | 30 days | 24 |
Until 18 Nov 23:59 UTC, the Regular permit is also a day 4 and day 12 reward in The Journey Begins. Those copies last 7 days and cannot be traded.
Permits work in the Free Market and in fields, but a monster attack or a death closes the store. Stay in the Free Market unless you know a spot is safe. Since 15 Oct unsold items come back as soon as the store closes.
Hired Merchants exist in the client: sells offline, in the Free Market only, up to 12 items, and shuts after 24 hours. They were not on sale in the 4 Nov Cash Shop list, so do not plan around one.
Sale fee: Nexon has published none, and we have no reliable figure. Note what you receive on your first sale and post it.
Pricing
- Start with the timer. Crates expire in 7 days, so sell those first. Reset scrolls have no timer, so you can hold them.
- Match the last few real sales. An ask is only a hope, and it can sit above or below what things really sell for. A much lower price only helps resellers. As of 7 Nov the price board has no reports, so ask players what really sold, and post your own sale there. For Cash items such as crates and resets, the board takes no reports, so ask in chat what one recently sold for.
- Player prices move. Check on the day you sell, and again on the day you buy.
- Thin items are unreliable. A few sales tell you little. Ask around before you pay a record price.
For reach, a (350 NX) covers your channel. A (1,500 NX) covers your world. An (1,500 NX) shows the item to your world. All need a character at level 15 or higher.
Selling outside the Free Market also works, and only a couple of reports exist so far: coconuts at Florina Beach, and travel scrolls outside Sleepywood. The idea is sound. Sell what people need where they need it.
Staying safe
- Read the trade window before you accept. A last-second swap is an old scam, and a slow check beats a fast loss.
- Never pay outside the trade window.
- Inspect stats and remaining slots on gear before you pay.
- GMs do not offer free NX or ask for your password.
Never buy mesos with real money. Nexon says it temporarily banned players who bought or sold mesos, and the Debt System reclaims mesos from accounts involved in those trades. See the Economy guide.
Not confirmed yet
- Whether stores charge a sale fee, and whether direct trades avoid it.
- Cab fares.
- Whether a Return Scroll works inside the Free Market.
- Whether all trading was or is blocked in the Netherlands or Belgium.
